GreenBank was first founded under the name Greene County Bank in 1890 and opened for business on February 20, 1891. The Bank's first president, W.H. O'Keefe, conceived the idea of establishing a bank with the basic principle of making handling money easier for customers. O'Keefe served as Greene County Bank's president for 15 years, building its first location in Greeneville, Tennessee in 1893.
After several years of change and growth, the main office branch was rebuilt in 1926 on North Main Street, where it is still located today. This building has gone through several remodeling projects over the years, but still serves as the bank’s Main Office for operations and customer service. Greene County Bank started expansion in 1962 with a branch location on Tusculum Boulevard in Greeneville and has continued with steady growth and expansion since.
In 2007, Greene County Bank elected to consolidate its numerous banking brands under the name GreenBank.
GreenBank is a Tennessee chartered commercial bank with its principal executive offices in Greeneville, Tennessee and currently has over 60 branch locations throughout East and Middle Tennessee, including a branch in Western North Carolina and a branch in Bristol, Virginia.
